When I first saw this series of images of the little girl, I realized the photographer had carefully posed and lit the images in a delightful manner. The child portrayed in numerous styles is actually quite contemporary and lives with her parents in Melbourne, Australia. Her dad, Bill Gekas, is a professional photographer, self-taught and very adept at portraiture, though his main occupation is managing a family manufacturing business.

When Bill and I got acquainted I found him to be a talented and thoughtful person, and I asked him to share his approach and process on this most wonderful personal project. Accompanying captions on the images go into more detail on each photograph.

A self taught photographer that learnt the technicals of photography using a 35mm film slr camera from the mid 90's and switched to digital in 2005, practicing the art of photography and constantly refining my style.

    Bill Gekas

    Australian photographer

    Bill Gekas (born 1973) is an Australian photographer who focuses on fine arts and portrait photography. His daughter Athena is the main focus of many of his fine art photographs.[1][2][3]

    Life and career

    Born in Melbourne, Gekas originally worked in the IT field and got into photography as an autodidact. In 2010, he started a project that showed his daughter on a set recreating paintings of the Old Masters.[4] Three years later, these photographs began to attract more and more attention and have been printed in magazines, journals, newspapers and other formats from then on.[5][6][7][8]
