Arunma Oteh joined the World Bank as Treasurer on 30th September 2015. As Treasurer, she leads a team that manages a USD 200 billion debt portfolio, assets totaling USD 200 billion for 65 internal and external clients including the World Bank Group, central banks, sovereign wealth funds and other official institutions.  She and her team also maintain the World Bank’s global reputation as a prudent and innovative borrower in over 50 currencies by executing transactions and carefully coordinating credit rating and capital market relationships for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA).  They also leverage a derivatives portfolio of more than USD 600 billion for risk management and process annual cashflows of more than USD 7 trillion. She is also responsible for an extensive financial advisory business for World Bank clients.

Arunma is a scholar and a member of the Global Leadership Council of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She is also the Chairperson of Veritas Asset Management, a U.K. asset manager and sits on corporate boards such as the Afreximbank Pan-African Payment System and Settlements Initiative. She is a member of the London Stock Exchange Africa Advisory Group.

Before joining the University of Oxford, she was Treasurer and Vice President of the World Bank and before that, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria.

She previously held several senior leadership positions at the African Development Bank (AfDB), including Group Treasurer and Group Vice President, Corporate Services. Arunma commenced her career in 1984, as a Lecturer of Computer Science at the University of Benin and has held several important positions in consulting, capital markets, finance, and research.

Arunma OtehOON is a Nigerian economist. She was the Treasurer and a Vice President of the World Bank (2015–2018). She became the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Nigeria in January 2010.[1] In this position she was responsible for regulation of Nigeria's capital markets, including the Nigerian Stock Exchange.[2] In July 2015, after her tenure in the SEC, she was appointed the vice president and treasurer of the World Bank.[3] She was appointed chair of the Royal African Society in July 2021, taking over from Zeinab Badawi.[4][5]

Early life and education

Arunma Oteh is of Nigerian/British nationality. She is from Abia State. She studied at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka Nigeria, earning a first class honors degree in Computer Science. She went on to the Harvard Business School where she obtained a master's degree in Business Administration. She co-edited the book, African Voices African Visions.[6]
