Born Glenn Phillip Teton, Giriraj Swami’s life took an unexpected turn when he met Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, in 1969. This encounter profoundly impacted him, leading him to embrace Krishna Consciousness. After graduating with honors from Brandeis University, Giriraj Swami received initiation from Srila Prabhupada and became a key figure in establishing ISKCON’s presence in Boston and later India.
Giriraj Swami’s dedication and leadership qualities were quickly recognized. He played a pivotal role in overseeing the development of Hare Krishna Land in Mumbai and establishing important centers in Vrindavan. He also served as president of ISKCON Bombay and held leadership positions within the Governing Body Commission. A renowned teacher and prolific writer, Giriraj Swami is now based in California, fulfilling Srila Prabhupada’s instruction to share the wisdom of Krishna Consciousness through his writing.

Giriraj Swami was born Glenn Phillip Teton, the only son of a respected Chicago attorney and judge. In March 1969, while a student at Brandeis University, he met His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), from whom young Glenn said he learned more in one brief exchange than in his many years of academic education.
After graduating cum laude from Brandeis University, he became an initiated disciple of Srila Prabhupada receiving the spiritual name Giriraj Das. Giriraj Das quickly became a leading member of ISKCON-Boston and was soon given the opportunity to go to India with Srila Prabhupada where he helped establish his spiritual master’s mission.
In 1972 Giriraj Das was appointed president of ISKCON Mumbai and a trustee of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. Since then, he has made many significant contributions to Srila Prabhupada’s mission, most notably overseeing the development of Hare Krishna Land in Juhu, Mumbai.

Giriraj Swami was born Glenn Phillip Teton in the home of a respected Chicago lawyer. He met His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder-acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, in March of 1969, while studying at Brandeis University in Boston, and considered that he learned more from Srila Prabhupada in five minutes than he had learned in his twenty years of academic education. After graduating from Brandeis cum laude, Glenn took formal initiation from Srila Prabhupada and was given the spiritual name Giriraj Das. In 1972, after Giriraj had toured India with Srila Prabhupada, Prabhupada appointed him President of ISKCON Bombay as well as a trustee of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. After Srila Prabhupadas departure in 1977, Giriraj was awarded the renounced order of life and appointed president of ISKCONs board of trustees in India. In 1982 he was made a member of the ISKCONs Governing Body Commission, the ultimate managing authority for the movement, and went on to oversee the Societys activities in Bombay, Mauritius, South Africa,
