Patrick Denis Marleau (born September 15, 1979) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey player. Marleau is the all-time leader in goals, even strength goals, power play goals, points, shots, and games played for the San Jose Sharks, having spent nearly his entire NHL career with them since being drafted second overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played his 1,700th NHL game on January 11, 2020, against the Dallas Stars. He is one of only five NHL players to play in 1,700 games, one of just five to play 1,400 with one team, and the youngest to reach both the 1,300- and 1,400-game marks. Marleau was seven games short of becoming the youngest player to play in 1,500 games with one team before signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017. After two seasons with Toronto, he returned to San Jose in 2019.

Patrick Marleau (born Patrick Denis Marleau on September 15, 1979) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL).

He serves as the alternate captain for the Sharks during home games and was previously team captain.

Patrick is the all-time Sharks leader in goals, even strength goals, power play goals, points, shots and games played having spent his entire NHL career with the Sharks since being drafted second overall by the franchise in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Biography

Patrick Marleau has appeared in two Olympic Games for Team Canada, winning gold both times. In his Olympic debut at Vancouver 2010, Marleau contributed five points (two goals, three assists) over seven games en route to Canada’s home ice gold medal. Marleau tallied four assists over six games at Sochi 2014 to help Canada defend their title.

Marleau’s first time wearing a Canadian jersey was at the 1995 IIHF Under-17 World Hockey Challenge as a member of Team Canada West. Marleau would go on to appear in four IIHF World Championships (1999, 2001, 2003, 2005), winning gold in 2003 followed by silver in 2005. He also suited up for the gold medal-winning team at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.

Marleau’s NHL career began with him being drafted second overall by the San Jose Sharks in 1997. He played with the Sharks from his rookie season in 1997-98 through the 2016-17 season.
