Sue Knight is an Australian philosopher, educator and academic whose research focuses on teaching reasoning skills and embedding philosophy within school curricula. She is the author of the Primary Ethics curriculum, which has been offered as an alternative to Scripture in New South Wales public schools for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 since 2010.

Education

Knight was awarded a PhD in Philosophy in 1978 from the University of Adelaide with a thesis examining "the problem of universals, a fundamental problem within Metaphysics".[1]

It is my experience of the land and sea which has always provided the impetus for my work. I gain my initial response to the landscape from walking. This may be on the coastal paths of Dorset, Devon or Cornwall, the fells of Cumbria or the islands of Scotland’s west coast. The wilder and more remote parts of the country have always drawn me to them. When I was living in London I would escape from the city to explore these magnificent places, then back in the studio I would transform the memory of that response, allowing the painting process to influence the way in which my experiences would reveal themselves. These days I am exploring the quieter and more hidden parts of the Devon landscape, where I now live, and I’m discovering the pleasure of being able to walk by the sea every day and to absorb more slowly the beauty that surrounds me before taking this new experience into the studio.

Susan's Story

Omaha-based painter, paper and installation artist, Susan Knight is a native of Michigan.  Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows and installations nationally, including Bank of America Headquarters, Charlotte, NC, Johnson and Johnson Headquarters, New Brunswick, New Jersey, and Garrison Art Center, Garrison, New York.  Internationally she has shown in China, Ireland, Italy, and Canada.  She has twice been featured in Sci Art in America Online Magazine.  Her work appears in Illuminations Poems Inspired by Science by Robert Louis Chianese and in 2016 was reviewed by Sculpture Magazine and Smithsonian Online Magazine.

Among her honors, Knight is a recipient of a Nebraska Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship.  In 2013 she was chosen by The Colorado Art Ranch and The Nature Conservancy for a “Land/Water” residency at Carpenter Ranch, Hayden, CO and was awarded artist residencies at Ragdale, Lake Forest, Illinois in 1997 and 2009 and at the International School of Art, Montecastello di Vibio, Italy, in 1999.  She earned a BFA in art from Saint Mary's C
