Saroj Khan and Sridevi’s relationship did not start very well. The first time they worked together was on the song Maine rab se tujhe in Karma, when there were thirteen retakes. When the shot was finally okayed, Sridevi came up to her and said, “Masterji, if you think I am a great dancer, you are mistaken. I need rehearsals. Will you please give me rehearsals?" So Saroj Khan asked Subhash Ghai for rehearsals, and he laughed. But Sridevi and she worked it out and became friends. “We used to do at least two songs a month, sometimes more. She told producers she wanted to work with me. In fact, she didn’t give dates till she knew I was free. She always fought for me," said Saroj.

India woke up to the distraught news of the untimely death of one of Bollywood's most versatile actress Sridevi, who at 54, died of cardiac arrest on Saturday night in Dubai. The actress was attending her nephew's wedding in Dubai with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi when she had a massive cardiac arrest.
India is in deep mourning after the sudden demise of the veteran actress, who did not just give Indian cinema her soul as an artist but also empowered thousands of women by being the first female superstar of Bollywood. Condolences from across the country are pouring in as people are finding it terribly difficult to believe that the legendary actress of Bollywood is no more with us.

Sridevi Kapoor (néeShree Amma Yanger Ayyapan; 13 August 1963 – 24 February 2018), known mononymously as Sridevi, was an Indian actress who worked in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada language films.[6][7] Cited as the "first female superstar" of Indian cinema,[6][7] she was the recipient of various accolades, including a National Film Award, five Filmfare Awards (a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, two Filmfare Awards and two Filmfare Awards South), two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, a Kerala State Film Award, and a Nandi Award.[8] Sridevi's career spanned over 50 years in a wide range of genres. She was known for her reticent and introverted off-screen personality, but headstrong and outspoken on-screen persona, often playing strong-willed women.[9][10] In 2013, Sridevi was honoured with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian honour.[5]
