Liz Ellis: Netball
Elizabeth “Liz” Ellis, AM (born 17 January 1973) is a former netball player who represented the Australian national team from 1992 until 2007, captaining the last four of those years. She made her debut for the Australian netball team in July 1993 against Wales. For Australian netball, Ellis is the most capped international player.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Liz Ellis became part of the Australian netball team and gold medalists for the World Games (1993), World Champions (1995 and 1999) and Commonwealth Games (1998 and 2002). She became National League’s MVP in 1998, Player of the Grand Final in 2001, Players’ Player of the Year and Commonwealth Bank Trophy MVP in 2002 and 2006. Ellis captained the NSW Netball Team in 2001, Sydney Swifts in 2002 to 2007 and Australian netball team in 2004 to 2007.
She was awarded Best Player in the 2007 World Championships.

Liz Ellis AO was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2009 as an Athlete Member for her contribution to the sport of netball.
Ellis retired from top-level netball in 2007 immediately after leading Australia to a world Championship victory over new Zealand.
It was a fitting ending for a playing career that included four World Championship victories and two journeys onto the dais to receive Commonwealth Games gold medals. She had captained Australia since 2004 and only an untimely knee injury prevented her being part of the side which at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games took home the silver.
After a knee reconstruction she fought back, at the age of 33, to play a key role in Australia’s 2007 World Championship victory.
Her contribution to the game at a domestic level was equally great. She was named Australian netball’s Most Valued Player in 1996, 1998, 2002 and 2006 and led her Sydney Swifts side to premierships in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

Elizabeth Margaret Ellis, AO (born 17 January 1973) is a retired Australian netball player and television presenter who was a member of the national netball team from 1992 until 2007 and captain for the last four of those years. She is the most capped international player for Australian netball.[1] Liz Ellis was inducted to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2006.
