Nancy Ann McClure

Nancy Ann (Hilgert) McClure, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, departed this world on December 19, 2024, in Apopka, Florida. Originally from Sellersburg, Indiana, she was born on November 14 in Leavenworth, Indiana. Nancy’s life was a tapestry woven with threads of knowledge, love, and an unwavering Christian faith.

In the realm of academia, Nancy’s career in education began while teaching at Borden and Leavenworth High Schools. Her legacy began to take shape when she became the first faculty member hired at Ivy Tech State College (Sellersburg, Indiana) in August 1971. With her remarkable dedication, she ascended to the position of Program Chair, a role she held with distinction until her retirement in May 2003. She was awarded the Glenn Sample Award in 1982, which is given annually to one outstanding teacher throughout the entire Ivy Tech college network. Nancy McClure's art career started at a very young age when, during her summers in upstate New York, she attended craft classes at the local elementary school.  She proceeded to doodle her way through school, always wanting to take art classes whether it be ceramics, jewelry making, photography or painting.  After graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelors in Merchandising (with all electives being art classes, much to her fathers dismay), Nancy again was seeking an art degree, this time from Georgia State University, in Atlanta, concentrating on  studio art which would lead into Interior Design.  Once moving to Raleigh, she continued the Interior Design route at Meredith College and then met her present partner of ArtSource Consultants, Inc.

Nancy McClure Biography

My goal as an artist is to create a piece of art that conveys an uplifting feeling for the viewer. I want my art to bring pleasure and joy to them as well as complementing their surroundings. I enjoy leaving some of the imagery up to the viewers own interpretation and imagination as I am working towards a less representational style. I would rather my collectors question why rather than being able to totally read what is before them.

I have worked in many different media over the years trying to find my way on this unbelievably fulfilling journey. Without a doubt painting with oils and a brush is the most rewarding to me. I do like to prepare my canvases with the complimentary color on the color wheel in acrylic before applying my oil paints. I also sometimes blend in a medium to create texture at this beginning stage. Once I see where I am going with the painting I will decide whether to use tools to scratch back through the painting and apply another few layers. It’s all so in the moment and spontaneous.
