Clinton Lovar "Clint" Romesha is a former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant. He received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Battle of Kamdesh in 2009 during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Family & the Early Years

Clinton Lovar Romesha was born in August 1981 in Lake City, CA, to a family with a strong military background. His grandfather, Aury Smith, is a World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of Normandy. His father is a Vietnam War veteran who later became a church leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Romesha is the fourth of five siblings, including two brothers who also joined the military. He is a member of the LDS Church and attended seminary for four years during high school but ultimately decided not to become a missionary for the church as his family had hoped he would. Romesha grew up in Lake City, where he developed an avid love of hockey.

Clinton LaVor "Clint" Romesha (* 17. August1981 in Lake City, Kalifornien, USA) ist ein ehemaliger Soldat der US Army, der für seinen Einsatz im Afghanistan-Krieg die Medal of Honor verliehen bekam.

Clinton Romesha wurde 1981 in Kalifornien geboren. Er wuchs in Lake City mit seinen vier Geschwistern auf und besuchte die Surprise Valley High School in Cedarville. Nach dem High School Abschluss trat er im September 1999 der US-Armee bei. Seine Grundausbildung erfolgte in Fort Knox. Im Anschluss wurde er zum 1. Battalion, 63. Armor Regiment, 2d Brigade der 1st Infanterie Division nach Deutschland versetzt. Als Mitglied dieser Einheit nahm Romesha am KFOR-Einsatz im Kosovo teil. Es folgte eine Versetzung zur 2. Infanterie Division, welche in Camp Casey, Südkorea stationiert war.

Im Rahmen seiner Militärkarriere nahm Clint Romesha am Irakkrieg und am Krieg in Afghanistan teil. Am 3. Oktober 2009 kam es am Combat Outpost Keating in der Nuristan Province zu schweren Kampfhandlungen. Romesha bekam für seine Tat an diesem Tag die höchste Auszeichnung des US-Milit

Former Staff Sgt. Clinton L. Romesha (pronounced Row-ma-shay) was born in Lake City, California. Romesha enlisted in the Army in September 1999, as an M1 armor crewman. After completion of training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he was assigned as a tank gunner with B Company, 1-63rd Armor, Camp Vilseck, Germany, which included an operational deployment to Kosovo.

After Germany, he was assigned as a gunner/assistant tank commander with A Company, 2-72nd Armor, Camp Casey, Korea. Following Korea, which included a combat tour to Iraq, he was assigned as a section leader with 3-61st Cavalry, Fort Carson, Colo. There he completed the Long Range Reconnaissance Course, Advanced Leader Course and Air Assault Training.
